The new Student Recreation Center at Cal State – Northridge, designed by LPA, Inc., has become the main social space for student life, which is key on a campus usually known as a commuter school. According to Associate Executive Director Jason Wang, the students wanted “a place for everyone, not just athletes.”
Designed to LEED Gold standards, the building features elements such as solar control fins and screens, low-flow plumbing fixtures, a photovoltaic solar array and rainwater harvesting as well as materials that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Barely a year old, the Recreation Center has already won the Grand Award for Greenest Sustainable Commercial Project won a Gold Nugget Award from the Pacific Coast Builders Conference as well as awards from the American Institute of Architects chapters from Orange County and the San Fernando Valley.Read original article
