Over the past two decades, Katia McClain has been involved in the design, management and construction of complex architectural programs for both public and private educational and commercial clients. In addition to her experience studying and working in the cultural capitals of Latin America and Europe, McClain has developed an expertise in leading large educational projects here in the United States. She encourages an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity and collaboration in order to create spaces that have a positive effect on human outcomes. McClain joined LPA as an Associate and enjoys being part of a firm that is so committed to the well-being of the environment.

Since 2014, McClain has been an associate and managing director for the education studio at LPA San Jose, helping the studio become known as a thought leader in design and leading innovative and highly sustainable projects that range from renovations at West Valley College to large new construction projects for Contra Costa County Community College District. As the managing director for all LPA San Jose Education projects, she has grown the studio to be a collaborative group that has helped clients like Soledad USD and Sequoia UHSD achieve creative learning environments that meet their mission and vision goals.

McClain received her undergraduate degree from La Salle University in Mexico City and her master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from San Jose State University. She is heavily involved in the AIA Santa Clara Valley Chapter as a board member and the Women in Architecture Committee as a founding member. She is also a certified, active member of the Design-Build Institute of America, making her uniquely qualified to work on collaborative environments with diverse industry partners.
