Twenty-story tower combines prestige, amenities and energy efficiency

The design for the 20-story tower at 520 Newport Center Drive in Newport Beach, California—steps from the famed Fashion Island shopping mall—provides prestigious office space for banking, investment and financial companies.

The travertine-clad building was designed by the world-renowned architect Henry N. Cobb of New York-based Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, with LPA as the associate architect. The high-rise includes nearly 330,000 square feet of floor area, with state-of-the-art conference centers, a grand lobby with a 28-foot ceiling, a modern fitness center and the 520 Marketplace—a curated collection offering coffee and fresh pastries. Floor-to-ceiling glass throughout provides sweeping views of the nearby Pacific Ocean. Two parking structures with a total of about 1,900 spaces serve the tenants.

Irvine Company teamed with Tesla Energy to outfit the building with advanced Tesla battery systems to substantially reduce peak energy demand and overall energy costs. The building is part of the world’s first fleet of Hybrid Electric Buildings. The project earned a LEED Gold certification.
