Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) partnered with LPA to create a master plan for all their campuses in Laguna Canyon, as their success with increasing student activity continues to grow—not only in fine arts but the in digital and game arts, as well. The collaborative design process included visioning sessions with the community, as well as meetings with city officials and local environmental groups to create a successful master plan.

A vintage auto garage/senior studio building was repurposed for LCAD’s main administration and guest building. Following some investigation, the project—which started as an interior remodel—needed many structural, utility and exterior upgrades. LPA's integrated design team of in-house landscape, civil, structural, MEP engineers and architects helped LCAD prioritize their needs while remaining on budget and achieving their vision for the college.

The resulting design brings dispersed staff together, welcomes potential candidates and families and celebrates their programs in one common space. A large, flexible meeting room with operable walls and connections to the outside courtyard celebrates the views to the canyon. With beautiful light quality on the white walls to showcase the art, the overall design solution reflects that great art matters.
