Three dilapidated buildings built in the 1940s—originally for a trailer manufacturing operation—were repurposed into design studios for two separate architectural firms. Described as "urban gritty," the SoFlo Studios were re-skinned with insulated corrugated metal and glass. The steel trusses were left exposed and natural light fills the open studios to promote collaboration and creativity. Original steel panels from garage doors were reused as walls in the reception area. Concrete and steel was salvaged and reused in the buildings and the landscape for gardens walls, paving stones and trellised entry gates. The project contributed to ignite more infill development in the area and earned the first LEED Silver certification in San Antonio by the U.S. Green Building Council.
