New master plan promotes the three A's: Academics, Arts and Athletics

A cohesive new master plan paved the way to transform the dated Paramount High School into a 21st century campus. The $72 million, 120,000 square feet of improvements strengthens the school’s civic presence and significantly enhances campus organization, appearance and security.

Paramount Unified School District and LPA collaborated on a districtwide facility master plan that includes the high school. The extensive engagement process included input from parents, community members and local businesses, as well as leaders from city government and the school district. Out of those stakeholder discussions, designers shaped a unifying theme: “The Paramount Experience: Academics, Arts and Athletics,” which represents the imperative that every student should have support for their unique talents and interests.

The three A’s translate into a new joint-use library; state-of-the-art science labs; renovated spaces for arts and music; a new stadium; baseball and softball fields; and a new gymnasium with renovations to the existing gym, plus a new field house and mini-gym. Exterior materials tie the campus together, combining traditional masonry with contemporary metal siding and modern windows. All new buildings are engineered for solar power.

The new athletic complex, also designed by LPA, was the first phase of the master plan to be completed.
