Serving seventh and eighth grades, Somerset Junior High School's 650-student campus was designed for a core of 1000 students for future growth in this developing community. Designed in two structures—one for academic, library and administration functions and the other housing food service, fine arts, physical education and athletics—are organized around an outside commons that provides an area for students to congregate. Innovative use of pre-engineered metal building components, including insulated composite metal wall panels with strategically located glass for natural daylighting enabled this project to provide considerable value to the school district with a very modest budget.
